What are your biggest concerns when shopping for a Mortgage?
Is it being taken advantage of?
Rate?
Costs?
Both Rate and Costs?
Do you know how to negotiate or do you just compare rates?
I wanted:
no pre-payment penalty
30-year-fixed
lowest bottom line costs
So I looked at places such as my credit union, banks I had accounts with, asked around (including my real estate agent), used the web, etc. Then I went with the best deal offered at the time. I don’t care about the little details but the bottom line–some places waive some costs then stick extra fees in elsewhere or whatever. What it boils down to is all that actually matters re: expenses associated with a mortgage.
Negotiation was not an option then–first house, limited income, etc. House I own now has a rate that today would be good and I refied in 2003 or 2004.
